GStreamer FFMPEG & FLV Plugins @ Multimedia Repository

GStreamer LogoThe GStreamer FFMPEG and FLV Plugins are available from my repository at http://ips.homeunix.com:10906.

You will need to install MBLgst-plugin-flv and MBLgst-plugin-ffmpeg to play most flash video files.

Flash Video in Totem

If you haven't added the repository to your OpenSolaris installation follow the steps below to add the repository and install the plugins.

  1. "pkg set-authority -O http://ips.homeunix.com:10906 ips.homeunix.com" to add repository.
  2. "pkg refresh --full" to update catalog.
  3. "pkg install MBLgst-plugin-ffmpeg MBLgst-plugin-flv" to install plugins.

Please note that the GStreamer FFMPEG plugin is still fairly unstable. For example, Totem crashes when trying to play an mkv file. This is overcome by installing the Fluendo GStreamer Plugins.

Update : I just found this bug report regarding the Totem crash with mkv and h264 files. It appears to be fixed in the newer GStreamer FFMPEG plugin but we'll have to wait until the next OpenSolaris version. OpenSolaris 1002 includes the updated GStreamer which is required for the newer FFMPEG plugin.

Any chance you want to build these 2 packages? gtkpod with the ability to copy videos over to the ipod too.
